ALBANY HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETES HEADED TO THE 2016 AMATEUR ATHLETIC UNION OF THE UNITED STATES (AAU) JUNIOR OLYMPIC GAMES

These talented athletes train hard both on and off season. Both athletes belong to the Albany High School Track and Field Team.  Lin Zhu started running track in the sixth grade and has been the Albany High School Varsity Captain for the past two years.  Jordan started running track in the 8th grade at Albany Middle School before joining the Albany High School Track and Field Team.  Towards the end of this season, the Albany High School Track and Field Team competed in NCS Sectionals in Castro Valley.  After the end of the school season, Jordan and Lin ran the 100 and 200 meter events at the region 22 AAU Junior Olympic qualifiers in Oakdale California, qualified in both events, were awarded two 2 medals, and qualified for the honor of competing in the 2016 AAUJunior Olympics.  The students then competed at the AAU West Coast Track and Field Championships in Reno, Nevada where they both ran the 400 meter event and again medaled and qualified to compete in this event at the AAU Junior Olympics.

During the off season, both athletes trained with Hilltop Speed Track Team.  Jordan and Lin credit former Albany High School track coach, Sam Burns Hilltop Speed Team’s Coach  for HIS hard work in helping get them to the 2016 AAU Junior Olympic Games.

Competition begins for the athletes on Tuesday, August 2nd at the 2016 AAU Junior Olympic Games in Houston Texas.  Depending on how far they advance, they could be competing daily through Saturday August 6th. The Bay Area News Group will feature a detailed article on Jordan Ramirez and Lin Zhu with updates on the completion.  Click here for more information about the 2016 AAU Junior Olympic Games
