FREE breakfast and lunch for all students!

Breakfast and lunch meals are FREE for all students through the California Universal Meals Program. No sign-up is needed. Each student may request a breakfast and lunch at no charge regardless of their eligibility for free or reduced-price meals.

Although meals will be free of charge, families are still highly encouraged to apply for the Free/Reduced-Price Meals program. Qualifying for free and reduced price meals provides funding for our schools and may reduce your family’s costs for internet access, child care, AP and SAT college application fees. If your student already receives benefits such as MediCal or CalFresh, they are automatically eligible and you do not need to fill out an application. You may submit meal applications as of July 1, 2023 for the 2023-24 school year at EZ Mealapp.

Good nutrition and learning go hand in hand.
The Nutrition Services department is made up of a team of food and nutrition professionals that are dedicated to students' health, well being and their ability to learn. We support learning by promoting healthy habits for lifelong nutrition and fitness practices.

Meals, foods and beverages sold or served at schools meet state and federal requirements which are based on the USDA Dietary Guidelines. We provide students with access to a variety of appealing foods that meet the health and nutrition needs of students.

General Food Information: In Albany Unified we strive to use as little processed foods as possible. All foods we sell are free of corn syrup and food colorings. We serve brown rice, whole grain pasta, whole grain breads and whole grain pizza crust. We use local and organic produce whenever possible. Our milk is hormone free and we serve 1% and Non-fat white milk. We serve chocolate milk two days a week at the elementary schools. Snacks sold at the middle and high school meet Smart Snack nutrition requirements.

Payment Information: For elementary schools, since meals are free, you do not need to put money into your MySchoolBucks account. For middle and high school, students can use their account to purchase snacks, beverages, or a second meal. Please put money into your student's account if they plan on purchasing any items aside from  their one free breakfast or lunch meal.
