ICE Presence In Alameda County

Posted Date: 10/23/25 (7:52 PM)

Dear AUSD Families,

We want to make you aware that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has been seen in Alameda County. Please know that Albany Unified School District stands firm in our commitment to provide safe and inclusive schools for all students and families, regardless of immigration status.

Under Board Resolution 2016-17-13, Declaring Albany Unified School District a Safe Haven School District, our schools follow clear protocols in the event of any ICE activity or inquiry. These protocols ensure that:

  • No student or family information is shared with immigration officials.

  • We do not allow immigration enforcement onto a school campus unless presented with a warrant signed by a judge that has been reviewed by the AUSD legal team.

  • Students remain safe and supported throughout the school day.

If ICE activity is reported near or at a school, staff will immediately contact district leadership and follow the established procedures.

We encourage families to learn about their rights and to have a plan in place in case of an immigration emergency.

Helpful resources include:

For students/families concerned about any possible encounters with immigration enforcement:

  • Make sure you have provided the most up-to-date contact information to your school, including family members and trusted friends who could potentially pick a child up from school.

  • Connect with immigration legal providers including: Centro Legal de la Raza (510) 437-1554 | East Bay Sanctuary Covenant (510) 646-8484 | East Bay Community Law Center (510) 548-4040.

In case there is ICE activity where you are:

  • Take precautions to stay safe. If ICE activity does occur either in the City of Albany or near an AUSD school, remember that the school is directed to follow the protocol mentioned above.

  • If you are concerned about your ability to drop off or pick up your student at school, call the main office at school or the afterschool provider in order to make arrangements.

Please reach out to your school principal or the district office if you have questions or need support.

In solidarity,

 Sara Stone
