Related Services 

The Albany Unified School District provides related services to students with identified special education needs to help them achieve the goals outlined in their individualized education program (IEP). 

  • Adapted Physical Education (APE) Services

    Adapted physical education is designed for students who require developmental or corrective instruction and are unable to participate in traditional physical education activities. We provide a modified general physical education program andツa specially designed physical education program in a special class.
  • Assistive Technology (AT) Services

    Assistive Technology (AT) encompasses equipment and/or services provided district-wide to eligible students who require them to access their educational curriculum.
  • Audiology Services

    Audiology services are provided to students with hearing loss, regardless of whether they use hearing aids or cochlear implants. These services provide access to the auditory curriculum in their school setting, allowing for clear and easy communication with teachers and peers. Services include the fitting of assistive listening technology, direct student support, and consultative services to teachers and staff.
  • Extended School Year (ESY) Services

    Extended School Year services refer to special education services provided to a student with a disability during the summer, if it is included in the student’s IEP.
  • Integrated Hearing-Impaired (IDEA) Services

    The purpose of the IDEA Services program is to maximize a student’s participation in the general education core curriculum by providing academic support, auditory training, self-advocacy skills, & language expansion for students whose hearing loss adversely impacts educational performance. This could include increasing vocabulary use, improving oral & written language use and structure, enhancing grammatical skills, enhancing the ability to follow directions, improving auditory comprehension & i
  • Occupational Therapy (OT) Services

    Occupational Therapy is an educationally based service that addresses the perceptual motor development of the necessary foundational skills that children must have in order to access and progress in their IEP.
  • Augmentative Alternative Communication Services

    Specialized Speech Language pathologists support students in accessing and using communication tools.
  • Counseling Services

    School-based counseling offers intensive, long-term services, including social work and/or group or individual counseling, to help students access their special education programs.
  • Deaf/Hard of Hearing (DHH) Services

    Deaf/Hard of Hearing teachers also provide support in the appropriate fitting and function of amplification and/or assistive listening devices for students in the academic setting.
  • Orientation and Mobility (O&M) Services

    Orientation and Mobility (O&M) services are provided by qualified, credentialed personnel to students who are blind or have a visual impairment. The goal is to help these students become oriented to and move safely within their environments, both in school, at home, and in the community.
  • Physical Therapy (PT) Services

    Physical therapy services are typically provided in educational settings to support functional mobility, independence, and participation in school activities.
  • Speech & Language (SLP) Services

    Speech-language pathologists provide services to students with communication disorders involving articulation, fluency, oral language, or voice.
  • Transportation Services

    Transportation services are available to students with IEPs who qualify for specialized services that are not available at their resident home school.
  • Visual Impairment (VI) Services

    Visual Impairment services are provided to support students who have a documented visual impairment that, even with correction, adversely affects their educational performance. The term includes both partial sight and blindness.
