School Change Requests
SCHOOL CHANGE REQUEST APPLICATION IS AVAILABLE FOR 2025–26 SCHOOL YEAR
The parent/guardian's first, second, and third choice of elementary school in AUSD is a major factor in the decision to assign a student to a school. Despite our sincere efforts to place a child in the parent’s first choice or second choice school, sometimes it isn’t possible. AUSD considers factors such as:
- Which school sites have available the services needed for students with special needs;
- Keeping class sizes even at all schools.
If you would like to request that your child/children be transferred to a different school for the 2025–2026 school year, please complete this form by March 31, 2025.
You must submit one form for each child you are requesting to transfer. Requests received after the deadline will be added to the waiting list, but will have a lower priority than requests received on time. Submitting a request does not guarantee that your child will be able to transfer, it means that AUSD will look at enrollment and consider your request if space allows. School transfers happen only in July, August, and September of each year.
Timeline:
- January 5, 2026: School Change Request Form for the 2026-27 school year becomes available
- February 13, 2026: Priority Change Period ends
- May 1: Families will receive an update regarding their request
- May 2–August 30: If space becomes available, you will be notified by email. At that time you will have one business day to respond to our offer, either accepting or declining the transfer. After one business day, the space may be offered to the next family on the waiting list.
- September: Limited transfers based on space and unexpected circumstances may occur.
