A Thanksgiving Letter from Superintendent Wells

November 23, 2020

Dear Albany Unified School District Community,

While the Thanksgiving holiday is upon us this week, I’m taking a moment to express my gratitude for your incredible resilience and resourcefulness during an extremely difficult school year.

This year, 2020, has unleashed challenges that we never could have imagined or anticipated, and even more await us in the weeks and months ahead. While I know this holiday will look different for all of us, the need to keep ourselves and our loved ones safe during the COVID surge we’re experiencing will mean more sacrifices this year. My hope is that each of you will pause to give thanks, rest, reflect, appreciate and celebrate family, colleagues and friends, and to bless those less fortunate – we must not forget. Remember, this is the time for sharing and caring.

I have so many things to be thankful for and about: my family, my friends, my community, and all of the dedicated AUSD teachers, staff, and school leaders. To all of you who sacrifice to make a difference in the lives of our kids, especially during these most difficult and challenging times, I thank you. And to all of our amazing students who continue to persevere during these unprecedented times, I am proud of you, and I thank you. Remember, together we will forge ahead. Together, we will make it through, and together, we will be better for it.

I’m wishing you all a very blessed, healthy, safe and encouraged Thanksgiving week.

Sincerely,

Frank Wells, Ed.D.
Superintendent - AUSD
