A Message To Albany Middle School Community from Peter I. Parenti, Principal (Updates for Tues., Wed., & Thurs.)

Today was a difficult day for students, staff, and families. People are sad, angry, confused, and in shock. Staff and community came together to support each other. All of our teachers reported to their classrooms. Counselors, Psychologists, and Mental Health Providers were available and continue to be available on campus. Parents and community members were on hand to provide support in many ways.

Here are some updates:

•The AMS YMCA Y-Achievers program will begin at 1:30pm today.
•The Albany Teen Center is open for any students who need a place to go.
•Parent Meeting: AMS Library @ 7:00pm. Shelly Ball and Sally Cohen, co-coordinators of our mental health programs, will hold a meeting for parents/caregivers tonight to discuss helping children through our community's current crisis. •Our usual Wednesday schedule will be in place. Students will be dismissed at 2:10pm.
•Counseling will continue to be available for students and staff.
•Sports programs and clubs will resume normal schedules.

•AMS will be open for a regular school day. Students will be dismissed at 3:05pm.
•Counseling will continue to be available for students and staff.
•Parent Meeting: AMS Library @ 5:00pm. Dr. Micheline Beam from Berkeley Mental Health will be leading a parents' meeting Thursday evening. Again, the focus is on how to talk with our children about the current issues.
