Elementary Enrollment Update: Transitional Kindergarten, Kindergarten, and 1st Grade

Last spring, I made the commitment to keep our Kindergarten and 1st grade classes at or below 24 students per class. Over the past month, our Elementary Enrollment Committee met to review enrollment and attendance numbers, discuss possible options, and make recommendations. Based upon the committee’s recommendations and in order to keep class sizes at or below 24, I have authorized an additional TK class and an additional 1st grade class, both of which will be placed at Ocean View Elementary School. Kindergarten enrollment remains stable at or below 24.

With the addition of the TK class, some families will need to move from ACC to Ocean View. Families will be notified by Student Services before the end of Wednesday, September 6th.

With the addition of the 1st Grade class, some families will need to move from Marin and Cornell to Ocean View. Almost all of these families are new enrollees. There will also be some internal shifting of students at sites to balance classes equitably. Families who are moving from Marin and Cornell to Ocean View were notified by Student Services.

I am pleased to keep 24 students per class as a ceiling for our youngest students. I am also pleased that our TK classes are averaging 20 students per class. I want to thank the parents, teachers, and staff who served on the Elementary Enrollment Committee. They reviewed constantly changing enrollment and attendance numbers and made recommendations in the best interest of students.

Thank you,

Valerie Williams

Superintendent
