Volunteer Information

Volunteering at AUSD
 
Thank you for your interest in volunteering for the Albany Unified School District. The links should provide you with information about how to volunteer. Please contact the site of you choice with any questions.
 
There are three types of Volunteers:
 
1) Volunteer I - not required to submit an application, get fingerprinted, or take a TB test because direct contact with students is supervised
 
2) Volunteer II - required to submit an application, get fingerprinted, and take a TB test because of limited supervision with regular and ongoing student contact
 
3) Volunteer III (Activity & Athletic Coaches) requirements same as Volunteer II and additional completion of a coaching education program that meets the standards developed by the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) as well as abiding by CIF bylaws and codes of ethical conduct
 
The Superintendent or designee has the authority to exempt volunteers from the TB testing if serving less than one year and contact with students is supervised.
 
 

 Instructions on How to Become a Volunteer I

  2. Read and understand the AUSD Volunteer Handbook
  3. Complete the Volunteer I Information Sheet
  4. Bring the completed sheet along with your identification to the school site of your choice

 

Instructions on How to Become a Volunteer II

  3. Obtain a TB clearance before you complete the Volunteer II Application because you will need to attach it to the application.
  4. Be prepared to verify that you have read and understood the AUSD Volunteer Handbook
  5. Complete the form and submit the Volunteer II Application to your preferred school site.
  6. After submitting the application, visit the school site and present identification.
  7. The school site secretary will then provide you with the fingerprint form
 

Instructions on How to Become a Volunteer III

  2. Review the FAQs about Fingerprinting, Tuberculosis Clearance, and other General Questions.
  3. Obtain a TB clearance before you complete the Volunteer III Application because you will need to attach it to the application.
  4. Be prepared to verify that you have:
    1. Read and understood AUSD Volunteer Handbook
    2. Completed or will complete a coaching education program that meets the standards developed by the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF). Volunteers bear the expense. Approved site: The National Federation of State High School Associations
      1. Required Training: Fundamentals of Coaching, Concussion in Sports and Sudden Cardiac Arrest
    3. Completed or will complete CPR training: must be a “live” class given by an approved Trainer
    4. Read and understand Victory with Honor
  5. Complete the form and submit the Volunteer III Application to your preferred school site.
  6. After submitting the application, visit the school site and present identification.
  7. The school site secretary will then provide you with the fingerprint form.

  Instructions for Registering as a Driver

  1. Complete a Volunteer II or III Application unless you are already registered as a volunteer
  2. Read the Driver FAQs
  3. Review the Driver Information Sheet
  4. Read Transportation by Private Vehicle
  5. Obtain an Official Copy of your California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) Official Driver License Record Report and be prepared to upload it to the application
  6. This can be obtained at any DMV office for a fee or a form can be mailed to the DMV.  Please visit http://www.dmv.ca.gov for more information. (The driver record that can be downloaded and printed by the volunteer is not an official document.)
  7. Any individual who has a total of 2 or more points including any pending offenses will not be allowed to transport students.  According to the 2010 California Driver Handbook,
    1. Examples of one-point violations are: a  traffic conviction, an at-fault accident
    2. Examples of two-point violations are: reckless driving or hit-and-run driving, driving under the influence of alcohol/drugs, driving while license is suspended or revoked
  8. Find your Insurance Policy Declaration page and be prepared to upload it to the application
  9. Page showing name, expiration date, and actual coverage (minimum coverage can be found under the “Bodily Injury Liability” section)
  10. Must be at least $300,000 per occurrence, $100,000 per person, and $25,000 for property damage
  11. Card kept in auto is not acceptable, as it does not show coverage
  12. Be prepared to upload your Vehicle Registration
  13. Be prepared to upload your Driver’s License
  14. Complete the form and submit the Driver Form and Declaration to your preferred school site.
  15. After submitting the application, you visit the school site and present identification.
